Remembering Together

We’ve just had another Remembrance Day this week, and I’d like to give everyone a

chance to share what it was like for you. Do you have a personal connection to loss from

war? Does it bring up any difficult feelings you’d like to share? Do you feel uncomfortable

because you don’t feel connected to any feelings about it? It’s safe here to share.

For me, I can be overwhelmed with the suffering of others, so I give myself permission to

distance myself emotionally when I need to. I don’t have any personal loss from war, but

I’m often humbled at that thought that I’ve never experienced the effects of war in my life.

What an unearned and undeserved privilege! Even now, people all over the world often

suffer the loss of loved ones, loss of homes, of their country, or live under the fear of

military attacks, food scarcity, and often struggle with fear for their futures or even their

lives. But whether it’s a tragedy in the past, or in the present, I know it's important for us to

remember, because that’s the key to having gratitude, and sharing a deeper connection to

those who suffered.

When we share communion together, it's all about the importance of remembering. We

stop, and remember the cost paid to set us free, and who paid that price. In remembering,

we are reconnected to gratitude, and as we pray and ponder the miracle of what was

accomplished, we are inviting the holy spirit to deepen our connection to God, which also

deepens our faith. I know different denominations have different ways to partake

communion, so we won’t do that today, but we all agree to follow our Lord’s command.

Luke 22: 19-20 “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,

“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after the

supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured

out for you.”

Let’s take a moment of quiet now, to remember how much we have to be grateful for, most

of all for the assurance that no matter how bad things may be, we will never be alone to

face it, and we have a bright future because of the sacrifice our Lord made, so long ago.

Blessed Assurance

Verse 1

Blessed assurance Jesus is mine, O what a foretaste of glory divine

Heir of salvation purchase of God, born of His Spirit washed in His blood

Chorus 1

This is my story this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long

This is my story this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long

Verse 2

Perfect submission perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight

Angels descending bring from above, echoes of mercy whispers of love

Verse 3

Perfect submission all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest

Watching and waiting looking above, filled with His goodness lost in His love
